New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit has been hotter than the sun lately and has been named the current American League player of the week.
Congratulations to New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit on being named American League player of the week. From April 22-28 Voit slashed .433/.528/.867. Voit is the first Yankees player to win the award since *checks notes* September 30, 2018, when none other than Luke Voit achieved the feat!
Voit’s excellent week has catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard for American League first basemen.
This development comes as a surprise to many who thought Voit was a flash in the pan type player who wouldn’t be able to sustain the production we saw in 2018. Voit has heard the doubters and chosen not to listen.
The Yankees front office has also heard lots of criticism for not signing any of the top free agents available this offseason, but the trade for Voit at last year’s deadline was a downright steal.

Despite all of the injuries, the Yankees have sustained this season, it seems as though a different player steps up each week to lead the team to victory. This past week, Voit was that player and a huge reason why the team is gelling so well.
Voit, however, is not holding someone else’s spot in the lineup warm while waiting for their return. He came into the season with a chance to win the first base job, and with the injury to Greg Bird, the Yankees needed Voit to perform, and he’s picked up right where he left off in 2018.
Voit has probably done enough in his first 67 games as a Yankee to secure the first base position for the rest of this year, however at 28 years old, he is making his case to be the Yankees first baseman of the future. If he’s able to keep up his production at this premium offensive position, the Yankees could be looking at another long push into the postseason.
