Yankees: Anthony Seigler Prospect Profile

In this Unhinged Yankees prospect profile, we take a close look at another Yankees prospect who has ranked in the Top 30 list by team, Anthony Seigler.

Seigler was drafted by the Yankees 23rd overall in the first round of the 2018 MLB draft. Seigler is a switch-hitting and switch-throwing player. Before being drafted, not only was Seigler a catcher but he also pitched and played a variety of other positions on the field.

According to MLB Pipeline, Anthony Seigler started off the season ranked 6th in the Yankees system but dropped down to 9th. Seigler is also the Yankees top catcher prospect in the farm system.

Anthony Seigler

Team: Charleston Riverdogs

Age: 20

Batting/Throwing: S/S

Status: 7 Day IL

Height/Weight: 6’0″, 200 lbs.

MLB Pipeline Scouting Report: Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 40 | Run: 45 | Arm: 60 | Field: 55| Overall: 50

This season, the 20-year-old is batting .175 with a .328 OBP, 0 HR’s, 6 RBI’s and .534 OPS. The young catcher has struggled this season and he’s been on the 7-day IL since the end of July.

According to Pipeline, they believe he has the ability to be a Gold Glove-caliber player behind the plate. “He has promising receiving and framing potential, and his plus arm plays even better because he has such a quick transfer.”

Seigler is projected to be in the big leagues by 2022 and an interesting about Seigler that was on MLB Pipeline is that if he makes the majors, he’ll join Jacoby Ellsbury as the only players from the Navajo Nation. The switching hitting/throwing catcher is still young and definitely has a lot of time to improve his game. It will be fun to see him and Breaux compete for the catcher position in the near future.
