Yankees: Gary Sanchez and Edwin Encarnacion Need To Step Their Game Up

With the Yankees heading back to the Bronx for games three and four, there are two starters that have really struggled in the first two games.

The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros are tied 1-1 in the 2019 American League Championship Series. The Yankees took game one on Saturday and could have one won game two, but Carlos Correa hit a walk-off home run. There have been a couple of players that have struggled these last two games and we need them to come up big the rest of the way.

One player that has really struggled this postseason is Gary Sanchez. Sanchez despite his injuries, he had a solid regular season. After missing the last week and a half in the regular season, entering the postseason Gary has not be electric with the bat. So far this postseason in 17 AB’s, the Kraken is only batting .118 with 0 HR’s and 0 RBIs. Sanchez has been coming up to the plate and striking out way too much. With the team facing potential Cy Young winner Gerritt Cole, in his career in three AB’s, Sanchez is batting .667 with 2 RBI’s and a 1.000 SLG percentage.

Where The Yankees Stand Heading Back Home

Another player that needs to step up in these next couple of games is Edwin Encarnacion. In the first two games during the ALDS, Encarnacion had promising At-Bats but in his last couple of appearances he has been struggling. This postseason Encarnacion is batting .190 with 2 RBI’s and has eight strikeouts. Edwin also missed the last couple of weeks of the regular season due to an oblique injury.

With Cole and the Astros coming to town tomorrow for game three, these are two guys the Yankees need to stop taking bad hacks and work the count. If these two players start hitting and put some runs on the board, then this team will be one step closer of becoming champions for the 28th time.
