Right now, the third baseman job belongs to Gio Urshela. Brian Cashman said it is his job to lose this spring while Miguel Andujar works at some other positions in addition to the hot corner. Even so, there will be a strong competition this spring at the position because Andujar isn’t losing that job without a fight. It was his once, and he will want to take it back.
Both players had big seasons for the Yankees but will need to prove themselves again. Andujar was the runner up Rookie of the Year in 2018 but played just 12 games in 2019 due to shoulder surgery. Urshela broke out in a huge way in 2019, but his career numbers show that might be an outlier. Both have something major to prove about their games in 2020.
With that, both Urshela and Andujar will be fighting hard for that starting spot at the hot corner this spring in what will be a pivotal battle for the infield.
