New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays, 4/3/18: Home Opener

After being snowed out on Monday, the Yankees will look to play their first home game of the 2018 season on Tuesday afternoon.

*Weather Update*

  • New York Yankees (2-2)
  • Tampa Bay Rays (1-3)
  • American League, 4:05 p.m. ET, YES Network
  • Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY

The Yankees are coming home having had lost their last two ballgames late in the game, leaving a sour taste in the mouth of Yankees fans.

Having a snow day on Monday might have been the best thing for them to recuperate their mind and get back into the swing of things mentally.

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery will be taking the ball for the Yankees in his first start of the season.

In 2017, Montgomery broke out on the scene in his impressive rookie campaign where he went 9-7 while sporting a 3.88 ERA and leading American League rookie pitchers in strikeouts.

In three starts last year against the Rays, the left-hander struggled, going 1-1 with a 4.73 ERA.

Chris Archer will be taking the mound for Tampa Bay, looking to rebound from his first start of the season which was rough.

On Opening Day, Archer gave up four runs on six hits through six innings against the Boston Red Sox.

The right-hander faced the Bronx Bombers four times in 2017, where he surrendered 11 runs in 23 1/3 innings which translates to a 4.24 ERA.

Lineups:

Player To Watch

Didi Gregorius

Tonight’s player to watch has to be New York’s shortstop Didi Gregorius considering he is one of the few players in the lineup to actually have good numbers against the Rays’ ace.

In 26 career at-bats against the right-hander, Gregorius has a .308 average with just a single RBI.

However, Gregorius has proved time after time that he is the most clutch player in the Yankees lineup and when facing good pitching you should never bet against him. Just ask Corey Kluber.

The Boys Are Back In Town

The Yankees will play their first baseball game back in the Bronx since Game Five of the ALCS  where the home crowd was ecstatic for the entire playoffs helping the Bronx Bombers go undefeated there.

Expect the home crowd to be as loud as ever for the Home Opener, especially with the expectations surrounding this team. Fans are excited for what’s expected to come in 2018.

Stay tuned to Unhinged Yankees for any updates regarding potential delays for this afternoon.
